Professional Profile

My mission is to apply my enthusiasm for writing in a challenging position that allows me to demonstrate my education, creativity and ambition. It’s important to me to work in an environment that fosters growth and offers an open and dynamic culture. Creativity is key in our industry, and I believe that some companies know how to encourage it better than others. I also believe that in order for it to flourish, there has to be synergy within a creative team.

My passion for the English language makes verbal command and creative writing second nature. And, because of the positions I’ve held in the past, AP style has become automatic. The leadership and management responsibilities I’ve been given prove my ability to contribute to creative and strategy development, meet tight deadlines, balance multiple projects, execute under pressure, and provide accurate and research-based content with a quick turnaround.

My current nameplate and business cards say “Amy Jo Miller – Creative Manager/Marketing Writer,” meaning I develop campaign concepts, write all content for Colorado State University OnlinePlus marketing materials, and manage the entire creative process from beginning to end.

Please browse around for examples of my work that demonstrate my ability to:
  • Innovatively conceptualize, plan, write and execute campaigns
  • Successfully develop creative copy while conforming to various styles, including AP, Chicago, and company-specific
  • Adapt my writing style for a wide variety of media, including social media
  • Build and develop integrated communications strategies
  • Translate detailed, technical jargon into understandable, concise and compelling content
  • Apply SEO and SEM principles and strategies to my writing
  • Understand design elements and aesthetic
  • Collaboratively work with a team of project managers, clients and designers
  • Research products and services, as well as target audiences, to develop emotional connections through my copy and concepts

I would love to learn more about the position you're looking to fill, and I welcome the opportunity to share with you how my skills and ideas can benefit you and your team.

Personal Profile

Read on to learn a few things about me that may not be “resume” appropriate, but are things that paint a picture of just how perfectly I might fit at that empty desk, chair or beanbag in your office.

I was born in Nebraska (GO HUSKERS!), but grew up in a small town in Colorado; went back to Neb. for school, and ended up in Denver after I graduated. I got a degree in journalism because I have an unexplainable passion for words, and have been blending them into copy to grab the attention of various audiences for the past seven years.

A few more layers of the onion:
  • I have a cat with an attitude that I call Stella Marie
  • My cube is decorated wtih photos, Velcro and notes from co-workers
  • I like to use my creative license to break the rules of writing from time to time
  • I carry a camera with me everywhere
  • I backpacked through Europe with my now husband two summers ago - 1 backpack, 6 countries, 14 cities, 28 days
  • You will never find me in the office on the Colorado Rockies' Opening Day
  • I still take naps
  • The wrong usage of their, they're and there drives me insane
  • I have lived in Colorado since I was six and am still learning to snowboard - I can't ski either, but I've decided to concentrate on boarding because I think you look "cooler"
  • I visit www.thesaurus.com on a daily basis
  • I am currently on a mission to read all of the Pulitzer Prize winning novels
  • I laugh at every Sonic commercial
  • I volunteer with my church each summer during Bible school, which has taught me to effectively contain eight four-year-olds at a time
